In Navajo and Tapestry weaving, the warp is completely hidden allowing for your creative designs to be displayed. This weaving style has a long and rich history. The word tapestry comes from the Old French tapisserie, meaning “to cover with heavy fabric, to carpet”. Tapestries have been used since at least Hellenistic times. Navajo textiles typically have strong geometric patterns. In this class, we will learn tapestry weaving techniques, including knotted tassels, soumak, pick and pick, hatching, and interlock. Experiment with color, texture, and fiber. A variety of loom sizes are available for purchase.
