November 5, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

|Recurring Classes and Events (See all)

An event every week that begins at 3:00 pm on Saturday, repeating until November 19, 2022

$98.00

In Navajo and Tapestry weaving, the warp is completely hidden allowing for your spectacular image to be displayed.  This weaving style has a long and rich history. The word tapestry comes from the Old French tapisserie, meaning “to cover with heavy fabric, to carpet”.  Tapestries have been used since at least Hellenistic times.  Navajo textiles typically have strong geometric patterns.  Traditional Navajo weaving used upright looms with no moving parts.  The weaver sat on the floor while weaving, wrapping the finished portion of the fabric underneath the loom.

Skill Level: All Levels

In this class, we will learn tapestry weaving techniques, including knotted tassels, soumak, pick and pick, hatching, and interlock.  These techniques will help you to create unique tapestries.  Experiment with color, texture, and fiber.  A variety of loom sizes are available for purchase.  Class is $98 with yarn purchase.
