The Not Entirely Entrelac Scarf will be a gorgeous addition to your wardrobe. This beautiful scarf has the look of a true designer accessory, but knits up quickly and easily. Choose one of a number of luscious variegated yarns to create your own uniquely patterned scarf.
The Not Entirely Entrelac Scarf is so-called because the pattern uses some, but not all, of the techniques that are common to Entrelac knitting. This pattern uses only knit and purl stitches. Cable Cast-on (CCO) is used in place of picking up stitches to create the pattern, allowing for a more attractive “wrong side” of the fabric than is achieved in traditional entrelac knitting. The end result is a more finished look, and the ability to wrap the scarf without worrying about “wrong” and “right” sides. The triangle edges of the Not Entirely Entrelac Scarf are created using bind off (BO) stitches.
Did you know?
Entrelac is a knitting technique that is generally used to create a textured diamond pattern. The result of traditional entrelac knitting resembles basket-woven strips of knitted fabric. The actual fabric is comprised of interconnected squares with two different orientations that create the illusion of basket-weaving. A unique feature of entrelac is the fact that a single “row” of knitting actually contains a number of shorter rows within a square. Traditionally, to create the “basket-weave” effect, the knitter picks up stitches along the side edge of an existing square, then knits along them. As a result of using picked up stitches to form the interlocked squares, the back of the fabric is less attractive than in the front. (Adapted from “Entrelac” at www.en.m.wikipedia.org.)
